Innovation in Rural Health Care
We’re excited to share a recent Times Colonist column by Dr. Charles Helm, co-chair of the South Peace Division of Family Practice highlighting an important innovation in IUD comfort — a project that began right here in the South Peace and was first shared at the Tumbler Ridge Medical Conference by resident Dr. Yonabeth Nava de Escalante.
This timely opinion piece by Dr. Helm reflects what makes rural practice so special: the ability to innovate quickly, collaborate closely, and make a real difference in patients’ lives. Our recent rural recruitment feature also highlights this — rural medicine offers wide scope, strong mentorship, and a deep sense of belonging.
We’re grateful for the incredible residents and physician leaders who drive this work forward.
